Bread, anyone?

In October a team went out to Koleosho, near our property, and set up shop out of the back of our car on the side of the road. 100 loaves of bread and piles of clothes were gone in no time. Our Academic Director shared the love of Jesus with those on foot, and many were prayed with as they passed by. Praise the Lord for a successful outing!

A similar scenario is happening right now in another part of town. In this area there is a solid mix of wealthy, poor, and intellectuals. Hopefully we can provide breakfast for over 250 people while sharing with the wealthy and educated about the ministry and how they can be involved. Please pray that those who need our food can be blessed, and those who can help provide for the needy will feel called to join us.

In a related mission project, over the years we have been approached by various people asking for assistance for their children. On a case-by-case basis we have helped a few. In the next few newsletters, we will be sharing the stories of some children who the ministry is supporting through you. For today, here is the story of one girl we have recently met and been able to assist.

Halimat is a 9 year old girl in primary three. She is living with her grandmother. Her father is currently in Lagos struggling for survival and sends little home. Her mother left with the older sister, leaving little Halimat with her grandmother.

We met them at nearly 9pm, begging near a supermarket. The girl was sent to beg while the grandma hid somewhere. We had to interrogate her, “you can’t be alone in this place. Who brought you here?” She brought the grandma. We intervened because this girl has been introduced to street begging. If care is not taken, this will be her story.

When they visited our office in October, grandma reported that she has been a petty trader in front of her house but due to the hardship in the economy, she couldn’t sustain the business. Since almost nothing comes from her son, she had no option but to go about seeking for alms with the girl and that was where we met her.

When asked what help could be rendered to her, she said she needs assistance for Halimat’s education and to restart her business. We were able to supply her with exercise books and a backpack. We also provided a little cash to help them buy her school uniform and shoes. The grandmother was very happy to have received assistance for her girl, saying we should also assist her to resume her business.

If God is laying it on your heart to help us as we support this family and others like it, please let us know!

Thank you for your continuing prayers and support.
